{"id":557,"date":"2013-10-27T17:18:18","date_gmt":"2013-10-27T17:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stafforini.com\/blog\/?p=557"},"modified":"2014-01-18T23:10:14","modified_gmt":"2014-01-18T23:10:14","slug":"gamified-learning-a-list-of-useful-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stafforini.com\/blog\/gamified-learning-a-list-of-useful-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"Gamified learning: a list of good resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The main problem in learning a new skill is maintaining the required motivation and discipline, especially in the early stages. \u00a0Gamification deals with this problem better than any of the other approaches I&#8217;m familiar with. \u00a0Over the past few months, I&#8217;ve managed to study maths, languages, coding, Chinese characters, and more on a daily basis, with barely any interruptions. \u00a0I accomplished this by simply taking advantage of the many gamified learning resources available online for free. \u00a0Here are the sites I have tried and can recommend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.codecademy.com\/\">Codecademy<\/a>. For learning computer languages (Ruby, Python, PHP, and others).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/duolingo.com\/\">Duolingo<\/a>. For learning the major Indo-European languages (English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish).<\/li>\n<li><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/\">Khan Academy<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">. For learning maths. They also teach several other disciplines, but they offer mostly videos with only a few exercises.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/memrise.com\/\">Memrise<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">. For memorizing stuff, especially vocabulary. \u00a0The courses vary in quality; the ones on Mandarin Chinese are excellent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vocabulary.com\/\">Vocabulary.com<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">. \u00a0For memorizing English vocabulary.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Am I missing anything?
